Proudly serving the new generation of boaters and sailors.
Our service offerings are borne from our philosophy:
The next generation of marine surveying is here: at Capital Marine Surveying, it is our mission to safeguard the boating aspirations of newcomers and seasoned boaters alike, by smoothing the difficulty endemic within all facets and stages of boating and sailing—from the vessel acquisition, orientation/familiarization, refitting/outfitting, and operational consideration stages, to the sale and upgrade process. "Preventing disaster, connecting you with your dreams," is our underlying modus operandi—which imbues and undergirds all of the services we offer.
It is our belief that with timely and transparent expert guidance, you can uncover the truth about any vessel: its condition, necessary repairs, and potential upgrade pathways—all of which will lead to greater satisfaction, contentment, confidence, and enjoyment on the water. To such an effect, it is our aim to help facilitate the growth and future proliferation of boating through the enrichment of one boater at a time—all while working to remove the inherent friction within each stage of boating: from ideation to actualization.
To such ends, Capital Marine Surveying partners with boaters and boat owners in offering an extensive array of advisory services,—including exhaustive surveys, and various consulting and training services—all of which are aimed at helping our clients achieve a richer and more fruitful boating experience. We have reaped the rich rewards and benefits of the humane activity of boating ourselves, and now it is high-time we impart and transmit the necessary knowledge thereby gleaned, to other worthy individuals, couples, and families—so they may experience for themselves, the magic of a life spent on the water.
Condition and Valuation Surveys
The Condition and Valuation Survey (C&V) is a comprehensive survey commissioned for Pre-Purchase (used vessels), Pre-Acceptance (new vessels), Insurance (typically older vessels), and general owner purposes. Such a survey begins with a non-invasive and non-destructive inspection,—which is conducted as a vessel lies, at an agreed-to rate—and concludes with the delivery of the exhaustive survey report; our reports are replete with dozens of pictures with helpful captions—as well as findings and recommendations categorized based on severity, cited in reference to, and in accordance with, governing standards: e.g. USCG regulations, COLREGS, ABYC, NFPA, SAMS, ISO/UL and other relevant mandatory (legal) and voluntary (best practices) standards.
If you are looking for the cheapest and/or fastest surveyor in town, you have not come to the right place—and had best look elsewhere. If you are looking for the most passionate, exhaustive, and comprehensive client-facing survey experience, you have found a like-minded surveying company who would be eager to serve you, and work to facilitate your boating interest(s).
Specialized Marine Surveys
A specialized marine survey is conducted on an ad-hoc basis—either as a standalone survey in itself, or in addition to a commissioned C&V survey—at an agreed-to rate. Specialized surveys offered by Capital Marine Surveying include: walk-through short surveys, engine/machinery surveys, damage surveys, and sea trials.
Consulting and Advisory Services
Unlike many other surveyors, Capital Marine Surveying is able to offer a vast array of additional client-facing consulting and advisory services, which aim to assist boat owners (and prospective boat owners) sensibly navigate a confounding seascape of confusion, incompetence, misinformation, and corruption—all of which can ground one's boating and boat-owning dreams before they ever take shape. A serial boat-owner (*12, ranging 10'-38') and restorer (6), Capital Marine Surveying's owner and chief surveyor, Drew Maglio, has experienced boating from all sides, as he received a "baptism by fire" from the end-user side, rather than the industry-facing, business side.
As a result, Capital Marine Surveying is able to offer various consulting services—including buyer/seller consulting, refit consulting and itemized costing, trip planning/preparation consulting, and more; additional services and discounted packages are also available, including Owner Advocacy and Better Boating Ownership Support.
Training Services
As an extension of our other services, Capital Marine Surveying is able to offer additional support to our clients in the form of Owner-Onboarding, On-Water Training, and Ownership Training—all of which are designed to facilitate and expedite the process by which one of our clients, takes ownership of their vessel, properly speaking.
Our training offerings are available on a per-session basis, as well as in the form of a package, which we have aptly dubbed as our "New Owner Success Package."
